Svitch XE+

The Svitch XE+ is a foldable pedal-assist e-cycle with a throttle option, built for riders who want a noticeably bigger battery and longer range than a typical city e-cycle offers. It comes in a single configuration priced at Rs 1,18,999, with a manufacturer-claimed range of 80 to 120 km per charge depending on how much you pedal versus lean on the throttle.

Is the Svitch XE+ right for you?

Best for

  • Daily commuters covering 15-30 km who want a generous buffer so they aren't charging every single day
  • Riders who want the option to switch between full throttle, blended pedal-assist, and pure pedal power across a single ride
  • People who need to fold and stash the cycle in a small flat, an office corner, or a car boot
  • Mixed-terrain riders who'll use the 8-speed drivetrain and front-plus-rear suspension on uneven roads or light inclines
  • Buyers prioritising battery size and componentry over finding the cheapest e-cycle on the market

Think twice if

  • Budget shoppers - Rs 1,18,999 is a steep ask in a segment where many e-cycles cost roughly half as much
  • Anyone who wants top speed or charge time confirmed before buying - Svitch's own listing doesn't publish either figure
  • Buyers who care about colour choice - every colour option was sold out at the time this listing was captured
  • Riders expecting the full 120 km claimed figure on regular throttle-heavy commutes - that number is realistic mainly on the lowest assist level under ideal, flat conditions
  • Anyone who needs a genuinely light cycle to carry upstairs daily - weight isn't disclosed, and a battery this large usually adds noticeable heft even with folding

A pedal-assist e-cycle up to 250W and 25 km/h needs no RTO registration, road tax, licence or insurance in India, so the on-road price is the ex-showroom price. Throttle or higher-power models may need registration - check the variant spec.

Charging and living with it

Charging times vary by variant and charger; see each variant above. Most owners charge at home from a standard socket, and many packs are removable so you can carry the battery indoors to charge. The XE+ sits in a single variant at Rs 1,18,999 with no cheaper or throttle-free alternative to compare against. Its cons note it's positioned near the 250W band that typically keeps pedal-assist cycles exempt from RTO registration, road tax, licence and insurance in India, but it also has a throttle, and throttle-enabled e-cycles can be treated differently depending on local rules and how the motor is governed. Confirm with your local RTO before assuming automatic exemption, especially if you plan to ride mostly on throttle.

Strengths

  • Largest battery in the line (48V 14.5Ah) with up to 80-120 km claimed range
  • Bafang motor and 8-speed Shimano drivetrain
  • Foldable with front suspension plus rear shock
  • Throttle plus 5-level pedal assist

Watch-outs

  • Very expensive at ~Rs 1.19 lakh for a 250W e-cycle
  • Official page omits weight, charging time and top speed
  • All colours sold out at capture
  • Upper range figure likely under ideal conditions only

FAQ

What's the real-world range of the Svitch XE+, not just the claimed figure?

Svitch claims 80 to 120 km on a full charge, but that's a manufacturer figure, not an independently tested one. The higher end assumes a light rider, flat roads, the lowest pedal-assist level, and little to no throttle use. Ride with more throttle, on hills, or at a heavier rider weight, and real-world range will likely land well under 100 km.

Does the XE+ have a throttle, or is it pedal-assist only?

Both. It has a throttle for effortless, no-pedalling riding, plus 5 levels of pedal assist, so you can choose fully motorised, blended, or mostly manual pedalling depending on the ride and how much range you want left.

Do I need RTO registration, a licence, or insurance to ride this?

Pedal-assist cycles with motor output around 250W that stay under 25 km/h in assist mode are generally treated as ordinary bicycles in India, exempt from registration, road tax, licence and insurance. The XE+ is positioned close to that band, but it also carries a throttle, and throttle-enabled e-cycles can be classified differently depending on local rules. Check with your local RTO before assuming exemption, particularly if you'll ride mostly on throttle.

How long does the battery take to charge, and what does that cost?

Svitch hasn't published an official charging time for the XE+, so plan for an evening-to-morning charge as is typical for e-cycles with a battery this size. Running cost stays low regardless: a 696Wh battery costs only a few rupees per full charge on standard home electricity rates.

Is there more than one variant of the XE+ to choose from?

No. The XE+ is currently sold in a single standard configuration at Rs 1,18,999, with the same 696Wh battery, Bafang motor, and 8-speed Shimano drivetrain across the board. There's no lower-battery or throttle-free version, so the only real decision is whether this one variant fits your budget.
