Svitch XE

The Svitch XE is a fat-tyre folding city e-cycle built for riders who want a cushioned, go-anywhere ride they can also fold away and carry indoors. It comes in a single variant priced at Rs 88,999 ex-showroom, runs a 557 Wh removable battery through a 300W hub motor, and Svitch claims up to 80 km on a full charge under light pedal-assist use. Real-world range will sit lower once you factor in throttle use, higher assist levels, hills and rider weight.

Is the Svitch XE right for you?

Best for

  • Riders on broken, potholed or gravelly city roads, where the 20x4 fat tyres and dual lockable suspension smooth things out far better than a standard e-cycle
  • Buyers who live in apartments or small homes and want to fold the frame away rather than find outdoor parking or storage space for a full-size e-bike
  • Commuters who want flexibility between manual pedaling, 5-level pedal assist and a throttle for effort-free stretches, all on 7-speed Shimano gearing
  • Anyone who prefers a detachable battery they can carry up to a flat or office desk to charge, instead of wheeling the whole cycle to a socket

Think twice if

  • Budget-conscious buyers - Rs 88,999 is a steep ask for a 300W e-cycle, and cheaper pedal-assist options exist in this category
  • Anyone who wants exact charging time, kerb weight or top speed confirmed before buying - Svitch's own listing does not publish these figures
  • Riders who want a light, easy-to-lift folder - a fat-tyre folding frame like this stays heavy to sling over a shoulder or carry up stairs despite folding down
  • Buyers fixed on a specific colour - most colour options were showing as sold out at the time of checking, so stock can be limited

A pedal-assist e-cycle up to 250W and 25 km/h needs no RTO registration, road tax, licence or insurance in India, so the on-road price is the ex-showroom price. Throttle or higher-power models may need registration - check the variant spec.

Charging and living with it

Charging times vary by variant and charger; see each variant above. Most owners charge at home from a standard socket, and many packs are removable so you can carry the battery indoors to charge. Key figures Svitch has not published for the XE - kerb weight, charging time and exact top speed - so factor that gap into your comparison against other e-cycles before buying.

Strengths

  • Fat 20x4 tyres with dual lockable suspension give a stable, comfortable ride on rough roads
  • Detachable 48V battery can be carried indoors to charge
  • Both throttle and 5-level pedal assist, plus 7-speed Shimano gears
  • Foldable frame helps with storage and transport

Watch-outs

  • Premium pricing (~Rs 89k) is high for a 250W e-cycle
  • Official page omits weight, charging time and exact top speed
  • Most colours listed as sold out at capture
  • Fat-tyre folder is heavy to carry despite folding

FAQ

What is the real-world range of the Svitch XE, not just the claimed figure?

Svitch quotes up to 80 km on a full charge, which is a manufacturer claim, not an independently tested or ARAI figure (e-cycles aren't ARAI-tested). Expect meaningfully less in daily use, especially if you ride on throttle, use higher pedal-assist levels, carry load, or ride on inclines. Treat 80 km as a best-case ceiling, not a guarantee.

Does the Svitch XE have a throttle, or is it pedal-assist only?

It has both. There are 5 levels of pedal assist plus a throttle you can use independently of pedaling, so you can choose between exercise-assisted riding and effort-free throttle use depending on the moment.

Do I need RTO registration or a driving licence to ride this?

In India, e-cycles with a motor at or under 250W that only assist pedaling (with no separate throttle) are generally treated as bicycles, with no registration, road tax or licence needed. The Svitch XE runs a 300W motor with a throttle, which puts it above that usual pedal-only threshold, and Svitch's listing does not clarify its registration status. Confirm with your local RTO before assuming it is registration-free.

How long does the battery take to charge, and what does it cost?

Svitch does not publish a charging time for the XE. Given the 557 Wh (48V) battery is on the smaller side for an e-cycle, expect a few hours on a standard charger, and the electricity cost per full charge should only run to a few rupees.

Which variant of the Svitch XE should I buy?

There is only one: the XE standard at Rs 88,999, with the 557 Wh battery, 300W motor and 80 km claimed range described above. There's no trim decision to make, just a colour choice if stock allows.
